Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, ovoid jar with flared collar, footed base, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a large brushed floral motif extending across the front and reverse. Wavy cobalt stripe above. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Includes a loosely-fitting, cobalt-swag-decorated lid, not original to the jar, probably of Remmey, Philadelphia manufacture. Jar with three chips to interior of rim, an iron ping to rim, and an in-the-firing contact mark to one side. Lid with a chip and two nicks to flange on underside as well as a salt drip to top surface. H (of jar) Diam. (of lid) 9".
