Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, approximately one-and-a-half-gallon, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two different flower-and-swag motifs. Chain link decoration under each handle and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes a stoneware lid with cobalt swag decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, but probably not original to the crock. Crock is slightly out-of-round with a very shallow, 1 1/8" flake to underside at edge, a 1 3/8" in-the-firing chipped section to bottom edge, and some wear to bottom edge. A minor handle chip. A few very minor rim nicks. Lid with a 5/8" chip to knob, a 1 1/4" and 3/4" chips to flange on underside, a few additional minor chips and nicks to flange on underside, and a 7/8" line to flange on underside.
