Extremely Rare Stoneware Inkwell with Profuse Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, cylindrical form with tall rounded spout surrounded by three quill holes, decorated around the body with four brushed tulips, and around the spout with three additional tulips. Heavy cobalt highlights to spout and base. Cobalt-decorated inkwells produced in Baltimore are considered highly unusual. This example is one of only two of its style known. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, acquired by the consignor years ago in Pennsylvania. Very nice condition with some in-the-firing dryness to top surface and a small chip to top edge. H 2 1/2" ; Diameter 3 3/8".
