Rare Multi-Glazed Redware Tankard Pitcher, Stamped "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG," Virginia origin, late 19th century, cylindrical pitcher with footed base, short flaring rim, and applied ribbed handle, the surface decorated with heavily-splashed green and brown glazes over a cream-colored ground. Interior covered in a reddish-brown manganese glaze. Impressed on shoulder "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG". Exceptionally strong glaze with vivid color. Signed examples of this form are considered rare. 6" x 3 1/2" restored area to glaze at base on reverse. Glaze loss to interior base. Typical light wear to rim. Wear to handle. H 9 5/8".
