Scarce Pair of Stoneware Highlander Figures, attributed to William H. Farrar, Geddes, NY, circa 1850, a matched pair with Albany-slip-glazed surfaces, one depicting a Scottish highlander with bagpipe and spaniel, the other depicting a lass reading a book with lamb at base. Pairs of this type are often found with damage of some sort. This pair survives in exemplary condition. Literature: A related pair is illustrated in American Folk Sculpture by R.L. Bishop, fig. 401, p. 216. Both in excellent condition. A small chip to feather on lass's hat. H (of each) approx. 9 1/4".
