One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, second half 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two slip-trailed watchspring motifs, accented with scalloped details. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and along incised band at shoulder. One handle restored. A thin crack across underside, extending 5 3/8" up front of jar, where it forms a fork. A 3" restored chip to front of rim, not visible on interior. Some scattered light exfoliation to surface.
