Rare Stoneware Presentation Harvest Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Inscribed "Danil.Freymen.", Midwestern origin, mid 19th century, beehive form with wide and narrow pouring spouts and horizontal handle, the surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip and incised with the name, "Danil.Freymen.", above a bird perched on a leaf. The name on this jug may refer to Daniel Freeman (1826-1908), a physician and Civil War veteran, who was born in Preble County, Ohio. He graduated from medical school in Cincinnati, Ohio, and served in the 17th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He bears the distinction of being the first person to file a claim under the Homestead Act of 1862. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (to top of handle) 10".
