Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1840, cylindrical cooler with squared rim, large lug handles, and circular bunghole, decorated with a flowering plant featuring tassel-shaped blossoms, emanating from the bunghole. Heavy cobalt highlights to bunghole and large swags flanking bung hole. Reverse with highly unusual four-petaled floral motif featuring four tassel-shaped blossoms emanating from it. Leafy vine decoration under each handle and heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent form, decoration, and color. A 2 1/4" crack extending to the left of the bunghole. A crack extending downward from the bunghole and onto underside. Chips to bunghole. Faint lines on underside. A small rim chip on reverse. A 7/8" base chip and tiny base nick. A shallow 1 1/8" chip to top of rim. H 24".
