Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "NB", Nelson Bass, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1880, ovoid jar with flattened rim and crescent-shaped handles, the surface covered in a streaky, greenish alkaline glaze. Impressed with the initials, "NB", on top of one handle and incised with the number 2 at shoulder. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from the Southeastern U.S. Chips to one handle. Two small, shallow chips to opposite handle. A 1 1/4" rim chip. Two glazed drips to one side. H 13".
