Unusual Pair of Rockingham-Glazed Spaniels, American, possibly New York State, circa 1860, matched pair of molded spaniels in seated stance with heavy applied mane and tail composed of extruded clay "coleslaw". Hand-incised details to face and muzzle. Surface covered in a reddish-brown Rockingham glaze. This lot is the first pair by this as-yet-unknown maker we have offered. A few individual spaniels of this type have been sold through our firm in the past, including one sold in our Nov. 2, 2013 auction, which bore the incised date, "Nov. 19 1861". Both in excellent overall condition with typical small losses to coleslaw, the one spaniel with additional light wear to nose. H (of each) 8".
