Rare Stoneware Pitcher with Applied Bust Decoration, American, late 19th century, molded pitcher, decorated on the front and reverse with applied decoration of a woman's bust surrounded by heart-shaped coggling and rose motifs. Coggled heart decoration to rim and handle. Cobalt highlights throughout. This pitcher is the first of its type we have offered. The coggling is reminiscent of Remmey stoneware, although the slip-washed clay and lack of Albany slip on the interior suggest a different origin, possibly the Midwestern U.S. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 6 1/2".
