Exceptional Large-Sized Tanware Pitcher with Profuse Albany Slip Decoration, Dated "1888", New Geneva or Greensboro, PA origin, 1888, ovoid pitcher with tall flaring collar and rounded rim molding, decorated in Albany slip around the body with a sweeping fuchsia vine design. Reverse decorated with the large, vertically-brushed date "1888". Collar with freehand drape and graduated swag designs. Albany slip stripes to rim, base of collar, and base of pitcher. Additional stripe decoration to handle. Tanware pitchers of this size are considered rare, as are dated examples. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor's parents decades ago. A 4" hairline from rim. A 3" x 1 5/8" reglued section to rim on left side, adjacent to a 1 1/4" reglued rim chip on reverse. Two chips to interior of rim, measuring 1 1/4" and 1". H 11".
