Unusual Two-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral design featuring a fan-shaped blossom. Cobalt applied to the handles and highlighting the decoration on one side includes manganese flecking. Incised "2 1/2" under one handle. Base chips, one of which is partially glazed-over. Three minor rim nicks. Some typically in-the-firing contact marks. A hairline to end of one handle. A Y-shaped hairline on underside, continuing onto base in two places.
