Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed and Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, possibly Clarkson Crolius, Sr., circa 1800, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a leafy stem bearing a large flower blossom composed of impressed circles. Incised details to leaves and stem. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent size and decoration. Provenance: Exhibited in The Pottery of the State [of New York] (American Folk Art Museum, 1974). An in-the-firing contact mark on reverse, shoulder, and near base on front. A 3/4" line from spout. A 5/8" chip to interior of spout and a 5/8" chip to exterior of spout. H 10 3/4".
