Unusual Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BROWN. BROTHERS / HUNTINGTON. L.I.", New York State origin, circa 1863-1870, large-sized, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two tulips flanking a central small tulip, underscored by a series of swags. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusually-large size. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. A 6 1/2" crack extending from shoulder to midsection on front. A 5 1/2" crack extending from midsection to base on front, which forms a spider crack on underside. A 9 3/4" inverted cross-shaped crack on reverse, which forms a long T on underside. A 2 1/4" crack from rim on side of crock. A few minor nicks on interior of rim and a minor nick on exterior of rim. An iron ping at base on reverse. H 13 1/4".
