Scarce Four-Gallon Redware Lidded Jar, Stamped "JOHN W. BELL / Waynesboro, Pa.", circa 1880, highly-ovoid jar with flared rim and original redware lid, the underside stamped "JOHN W. BELL / Waynesboro, Pa.". Appealing bulbous form, which remarkably retains its original lid. One of a few Bell jars of this style we have seen. Provenance: Descended in the family of legendary Ohio antiques dealer, Clark Garrett. Minor chips to edge of lid and small chip to lid's knob. Jar with two shallow rim chips and a shallow base chip. Typical minor surface wear. H (including lid) 14 3/4".
