Scarce Redware Vase with Gun Metal Glaze, Stamped "JOHN BELL", Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1840-1880, finely-potted vase with ovoid body, pedestal base, and tooled collar, the exterior surface covered in a striking black gun metal glaze. Interior covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark on underside. An elegant example, stylistically ahead of its time and highly reminiscent of art pottery of later decades.
