Rare Sewertile Owl Bookends, Inscribed "EJE", Edward J. Ellwood, Tuscarawas County, OH, mid 20th Century, finely-molded pair of owl figures, each perched atop stacked slabs with rustic incising, the owls' heads and wings with heavy impressed circular embellishments and incised wing feathers. Both incised "EJE" on underside. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of sewertile amassed during the 1960s and 1970s, many purchased directly from the potters themselves. Both in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 5 3/4".
