Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Fuchsia Decoration, attributed to William Leet Hamilton, Greensboro, PA, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and incised banding around midsection, decorated with an elaborate sweeping fuchsia design between freehand stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Strong decoration with vibrant color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a faint 2 1/2" surface line at shoulder, not visible on interior. An in-the-firing chip to one handle and a minor in-the-firing nick to opposite handle.
