Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Wax Sealer with Pittsburgh, PA Advertising, possibly Boughner family, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded wax sealer rim, the front cobalt-decorated with the large stenciled inscription "FROM / R. PEET / 21 diamond, / Pittsburgh". Freehand cobalt stripe decoration to shoulder, midsection, and base. Unusual advertising, strong color, and appealing large size. Chipping to interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. Two minor base nicks. Some in-the-firing crazing to underside and left side of jar at base. A 2 3/4" hairline from rim. H 10 1/4".
