Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Bold Cobalt Starface Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flatted rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of a human face surrounded a large eight-pointed star. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A desirable New York State design, and easily Thompson Harrington's most iconic motif. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A tight X-shaped line on underside. A 7 1/4" sideways T-shaped crack under right handle. A 2 1/2" hairline to front. Wear to cobalt. H 10 1/2".
