Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with New Edinburgh, Ottawa, Canada Advertising, Canadian, third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed floral design featuring two scallop-edged blossoms flanking a large daisy. Heavily-spotted details to interior of flowers. Impressed with the elaborate cobalt-highlighted advertising "FROM / JAS; BLACKBURN / DEALER IN / GROCERIES & DRY-GOODS / HARDWARE & PROVISIONS / NEW, EDINBURGH". Impressed with a cobalt-highlighted number 5 below. Large sealed curving crack from rim. A tiny nick to right handle. A salt drip to left side of jar's front. Jar is slightly out-of-round. H 13 1/2".
