Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Hearts Decoration, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN", Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, circa 1815, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a dipped iron-oxide wash to top and base, the shoulder impressed with two hearts below the mark "CHARLESTOWN". A shallow chip to interior of spout. Some tiny base nicks. A 2 3/4" inverted Y-shaped line near base on reverse. Two spots of wear to surface. Various typical firing flaws, including a contact mark to shoulder and top of spout, contact marks to handle, and iron pings to surface.
