One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT:", circa 1860, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An in-the-firing dry spot to beak area of bird. A salt drip to shoulder. A small chip and small stone ping to side of spout. Some very short lines to spout, possibly in-the-firing. An in-the-firing dry spot with crazing to left side of jug. Crazing to base area.
