Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Odd Fellow's Chain Link Motif, Philadelphia, PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical cooler with tooled shoulder, applied tab handles, and circular bung hole, decorated with a split-stemmed flowering plant design. Shoulder decorated three chain links, a symbol associated with the fraternal organization, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. A curved cobalt line runs underneath each handle and additional cobalt brushwork decorates the handle terminals and surrounds the bung hole. Rim chips. A thin 2 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. A small chip to end of one handle. Scattered small flakes to top of bung hole. Some minor flaking to midsection on front.
