Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Decoration, Stamped "RUM", attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated around the shoulder with a coggled design of a bird holding a leaf in its beak with light cobalt highlight. Impressed with the word "RUM" and a two-gallon capacity mark below spout. Large, approximately 8" X-shaped diagonal line extending from base on right side of jug. Base chips. A piece of adhered clay at base on reverse. Some bloated spots to surface.
