Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Centreville, MD Advertising, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and rounded rim, decorated on the front with a two-stemmed clover plant flanked the cobalt-highlighted advertising "HALL & GODWIN / DEALERS IN DRY GOODS / GROCERIES & QUEENS WARE / CENTREVILLE M,D". Cobalt leaf decoration to collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Centreville, incorporated in 1794, serves as the county seat of Queen Anne's County on Maryland's Eastern Shore. This pitcher is one of a very few examples of the form known with impressed Eastern Shore of Maryland advertising. Missing handle. Otherwise excellent condition with some traces of old yellow paint.
