Very Rare Miniatures Stoneware Canning Jar, Inscribed "CS", attributed to the Swank Pottery, Johnstown, PA, circa 1870-1885, cylindrical jar with tapered shoulder and flared rim with tooled interior, the underside incised with the initials "CS", probably for Charles McClelland Swank, son of Hiram Swank. Whether this piece was made for Charles Swank as a child during the 1870s or made later by Swank himself is unclear. Swank worked as a machinist early in life, but was later involved in the family pottery. Exceptional size. Excellent condition with a small chip on interior of rim. H 2 1/2".
