Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "A. CONRAD. / MONONGAHELA POTTERY / NEW GENEVA / PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with desirable "MONONGAHELA POTTERY" stenciling, a freehand stripe at the shoulder, a stenciled "4" flanked by leaves at the base, and cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. A shallow in-the-firing flake to edge of one handle, caused by contact with another object. Some fry to cobalt at handle terminals. A shallow chip to interior of rim. A minor, shallow chip to top of rim. Some surface abrasions. Whitish residue at base on reverse and left side, possibly water glass.
