Unusual One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Clayville, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim designed to hold a lid, featuring the stenciled advertising "GILLESPIE & PARSONS / CLAYVILLE, / JEFF. CO. PA.". Stenciled foliate motifs interspersed into merchant stenciling. A 3 1/2" hairline on side of jar, which forms an X on underside. Light wear to interior of rim and inner rim where a lid would rest. Some light wear to cobalt. A minor stone ping to side of jar.
