One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico County, VA, circa 1838-1863, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with opposing pairs of graduated fern-like brushwork. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable one-gallon size. Excellent condition with some roughness to one handle, two very minor base chips, and a streak of staining to side of jar.
