Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.", circa 1835, rotund jar with tooled shoulder, arched tab handles, and rounded rim, decorated on the front with a sweeping stem bearing graduated leaves and fern-shaped blossom. Reverse with brushed chain link decoration. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A few base chips. Some surface wear to midsection on reverse. A 1 1/2" chip to one handle, along with some wear to end of same handle. Shallow chipping to opposite handle.
