Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to John P. Schermerhorn, Richmond, VA, circa 1817-1837, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, thin flaring rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large, thickly-brushed design of a tulip blossoming from a leafy stem. Excellent decoration and color. Desirable one-gallon size. Restoration to areas of rim and underside. A 4" restored Y-shaped crack ascending from base. Another faint, unrestored diagonal line, ascending 4" from base. Minor base nicks.
