Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN OTTMAN & CO / FORT EDWARD NY", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground with shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Large curving crack on reverse. Rim secured with a wire. A 1 1/2" hairline above one handle. A small chip on interior of rim. A small iron ping to reverse. Some spattering of old reddish paint to right side of crock.
