Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Fish Decoration, Stamped "W. HART. / OGDENSBURGH," New York State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with flared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a fish with open mouth, spotted body, and striped gill. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Wonderful folk art decoration. Provenance: George & Helen Vankennen Collection. A sealed circumferential crack extending through decoration indicates this jug was probably broken into two pieces at some point. Some fry to cobalt. Two small chips to side of spout.
