Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large, brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering plant, including heavily-spotted embellishments to the blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent color and wonderful, folky design. In-the-firing, 9" vertical line on right side of jug. A 1 1/8" flake and small chip to top of spout. A 1" in-the-firing contact mark to side of jug. A small, in-the-firing chip / contact mark to front of jug near base. Staining to sides and reverse of jug.
