Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & Co. / GEDDES, N.Y.", third quarter 19th century, ovoid churn with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird with striped body and cobalt-highlighted wing, perched on a stylized ground beside a flowering plant with finely-executed blossoms. Good slip-trailed wavy line detail to ground. Slip-trailed "3" to right of bird. Maker's mark highlighted in cobalt. Churn forms bearing the iconic Farrar bird designs are considered difficult-to-find. Significant restoration to reverse and areas on left and right sides of churn. Additional restoration to right of bird on churn's front. The restoration does affect the cobalt decoration.
