Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistically-rendered, slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with large blossom, three buds, and leaves. Excellent slip-trailed accents throughout decoration. Slip-trailed "2." at shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A 1 1/8" shallow rim flake on side of jar, a second smaller rim chip, and a minor base nick on reverse. Very minor wear to cobalt. Minor base chips. A 1 1/2" horizontal line to bottom edge.
