Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & G. GOETZMAN", Rochester, NY origin, circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a slip-trailed design of a daisy with spotted center and striped accents to the petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "2" at shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. The ovoid form of this jar is unusual for this maker. Shallow in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. Two 1 1/2" raised pieces of hardened residue to underside at edge. Whether these two pieces are applied to fill chips or not is unknown. A small stone ping to top of rim. Some light wear to cobalt.
