Unusual Stoneware Canning Jug, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, slender-bodied, cylindrical jug with wide mouth and applied handle, the surface dipped in a streaky whitish slip and covered in a salt glaze. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark at shoulder. This form is unusual among John Bell products. It was more-commonly produced by his brother, Solomon, in Strasburg, VA. A 3 1/2" Y-shaped line from rim. Spattered green paint to surface. H 9".
