One-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical crock with footed base, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large spotted tulip motif, applied over whitish slip. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark at shoulder. Includes lid with spotted tulip motif, cobalt-highlighted knob, and John Bell maker's mark on underside, probably not original to this crock. Crock in very nice condition with a rim chip, two small rim flakes, a minor rim nick, a shallow worn spot to rim (probably in-the-firing), and a minor handle chip. Lid with two chips and a tiny nick to underside of rim and a chip to flange on underside.
