Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Smith & Day, Norwalk, CT, circa 1840, semi-ovoid form with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed flowering vine design. Some fry to cobalt. Rim chips. Several iron and stone pings, mostly to reverse and side of churn, including one on left side of churn with a 1 1/4" line extending from it. Wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. Two small base chips to reverse. A faint 2" Y-shaped line to front, not visible on interior.
