Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Edgefield, SC origin, mid 19th century, rotund jar with arched tab handles, flared rim, and unusual raised shoulder molding, the surface covered in a streaky green alkaline glaze. Incised with three slashes below rim. Circumferential tool lines visible to shoulder area and base. Appealing form. A thin 5" vertical crack ascending from base on side of jar. Some shallow chipping to end of one handle. Minor wear to opposite handle. An old, shallow 3/4" rim chip. Circumferential tool lines visible to shoulder area and base.
