Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Edgefield, SC origin, probably Lewis Miles Stoney Bluff Manufactory, circa 1850-1860, highly-ovoid jug with distinctive tooled spout, the surface covered in a mottled, rust-colored alkaline glaze with grayish runs to shoulder. Underside with small block-shaped impression. It is currently unknown whether this marking is some form of potter's stamp or not. Provenance: Recently found in New Jersey. Light surface wear around midsection of jug. Chips to molding at midsection of spout. A few other minor surface flaws. H 14".
