Very Rare Stoneware Shaving Mug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, probably New York State origin, mid 19th century, flared mug with tooled rim, applied strap handle, and wheel-thrown cup applied to the interior. Decorated on the front with a flowering plant featuring three tulips and on the sides with stylized leaves or flower blossoms. A highly unusual form in American cobalt-decorated stoneware. Handle reglued. A thin, shallow 3/4" flake to interior of cup on interior, with adjacent 5/8" reglued chip. A 1/2" in-the-firing chip at base. H 4 1/4" ; Diameter (across top) 5".
