Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid churn with squared rim and lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Includes wooden dasher and lid. Exceptional size. Relatively few one-gallon stoneware churns are known. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small glazed-over ping near tip of bird's wing. H 11".
