Rare Shenandoah Valley Redware Harvest Jug, attributed to Anthony Bacher, Winchester, VA, circa 1885, semi-ovoid form with heavily-ribbed handle, tubular pouring spout, and small vent hole at shoulder, the surface dipped in a cream-colored slip and decorated with manganese daubs with clear lead overglaze. Appealing glaze and excellent form. A similar, earlier example, sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s July 20, 2013 auction, bears the incised signature and date, "Anthony W. Bacher / 1872". Wear to spout. Shallow base chips. Surface wear. H 10 3/4".
