Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W A MACQUOID & CO / POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE WST 12TH ST N.Y.", circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic brushed design of a bird with turned head, perched the stems of a plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A rim chip on side of jar and a tiny rim nick on reverse. A small shallow chip to left handle. Some faint meandering lines on underside, which do not appear to be visible on the interior. A 3" vertical line near midsection on reverse.
