Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Manhattan, NY Advertising, circa 1840, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighed advertising, "J. & M. OLWELL, / WHOLESALE & RETAIL GROCERS, / NO. 61 CATHERINE ST- NEW YORK". Decorated below with a brushed flower and freehand number 2. A few base chips. A number in black marker written on underside. A glazed-over line in base of handle.
