Rare and Fine One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1770-1790, ovoid jar with combed incising to shoulder, footed base, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a boldly-slip-trailed watch spring motif. Brushed cobalt highlights upper handle terminals. Desirable size and form, surviving in exceptional condition for its age. Excellent condition with a small chip to exterior of rim and a tiny in-the-firing iron ping to interior of rim. H 9 1/4".
